Even with superstar Shaq prodding some of the NBA’s elite superstars they have all declined to be in the dunk contest. Shaq proposed to have Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant, and Vince Carter all appear in the annual contest. All have rebuffed Shaq’s offer to join in. Shaq had the right idea and it’s too bad these players egos get in their way. Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins usually always appeared in the contest even though they did not have to. They did it for the fans and for the good of the game. The dunk-off between Jordan and Wikins became classics and are still pointed as the best ever.
Why are today’s superstars avoiding the dunk contest? I guess they feel they do not have to give back to the game and that is a shame. The game has made them very rich and they cannot give back to the fans is really a shame. No matter what the excuses these players have they should be in the dunk contest. Your suppose the have the best players in the dunk contest and it’s a shame these superstars feel they are two good to join in. Hopefully one of these days they will see the light, but I seriously doubt it. Greed and egos seem to overcome rational thoughts with these superstars.

Brett Favre threw four touchdown passes as the Vikings are heading to the NFC Championship Game with a determined 34-3 rout of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Favre and the Vikings played well on offense and defense. The Vikings sacked Tony Romo six times as the Dallas Cowboys had no answers for the Vikings all day long. For the Vikings it is what they expected when they signed Favre in the off-season. For the Cowboys it’s back to the drawing board. The Vikings also in my opinion should not have scored the last touchdown in the final minutes of the game. It all comes back to bite you in the end.
Rookies Mark Sanchez and Shonn Greene led New York to a stunning 17-14 upset of San Diego in the divisional playoffs Sunday, each providing a touchdown in the fourth quarter. For the Chargers they can look at the fourth quarter where they really could do nothing right. The Chargers had chances they missed field goals dropped passes and committed turnovers. You cannot do that in the playoffs and expect to win. It just doesn’t happen. I wonder if L.T. will be back as a Charger or has we seen him for the last time.

If there was any doubt that Nebraska football was back it ended at the Holiday Bowl. Nebraska came out and proved that the Texas game was no fluke and they could play football with a dominating drubbing of Arizona. Zac Lee threw a 74-yard touchdown pass to Niles Paul in the third quarter to highlight a 33-0 rout by Nebraska (No. 22 BCS, No. 20 AP) against Arizona (No. 20 BCS, No. 22 AP) on a rainy Wednesday night.
Arizona could only manage 109 total yards against a Nebraska defense that is ranked in the Top 5 in almost every defense category. Nebraska started the defensive domination early and never let up in the rout. Bo Pelini has turned the Nebraska program around and should be highly ranked come next year. His schedule this coming year is not real tough as all the hard games are at home so this could be a very good season coming up for Nebraska fans as well. Looks like Big Red is back in College Football as one of the up and coming teams.

January 1, 2010 will be the last time we get to see Bobby Bowden patrol the sidelines as Florida State head football coach. This will be a sad time indeed. Bowden has been a football coach like most who has had success and in recent years he has struggled as well. The one thing that you can say about Bobby Bowden he has handled everything with class and dignity. When he takes the field for the last time as Seminole coach many thoughts will probably rush through his head. Tears might even roll down this proud man’s cheek. Looking back though he has to have a huge smile in his heart. He has help many young men mature and become productive football players and citizens.
As Bowden looks around the stadium and sidelines he will see many former players who he help mold into champions coming back to the man who helped them. Bobby Bowden will be missed as a football coach, but most of he will be missed as a man who did things the right way. Bobby Bowden is a true coaching legend and it is a shame he could not go out on his terms like he should. I think Florida State University owed that to him. In the end though the players, fans, and college football have been the lucky ones. We got to meet a very special coach who will forever be a Seminole.
